There is a chill in the air, pumpkin spice everything is available and that can only mean one thing: Race season. Until we started running regularly and finding amazing races to do one weekend after another during the fall, we didn’t even know it was a thing. Texas heat can be brutal from May(ish) until basically the end of September so we’ll call our race season anytime that isn’t those months. We have decided, unless it is a Social/Fun Run there is no way we are racing in the Texas summer again…way TOO HOT for that kind of madness.
We kicked off our race season with Deep Ellum’s first ever run, The Dallas Blonde 5K, which seemed like the perfect fit for us. Running & Beer with 20+ of our friends and coworkers was the perfect launch party for the schedule we have ahead. The race went well for us, with a PR for Bre :), and with the exception of the light rain that fell during the run it was pretty much the perfect start to what we’re about to take on.
Bre is out of town this upcoming weekend, trying out some trail running in Arkansas, so stay tuned for pics, but once she’s back we kick our butts into high gear. Racing on the weekends all the while training for our longer distances runs will be an interesting experience that we hope helps us with our races and doesn’t end in pain and regrets. Here are the races we have coming up this year, and if you’re ever in the DFW area and want to join us on some please do!
September 25: Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon
October 1: Rahr Oktoberfest (we’re both aiming for a PR at this one)
October 8: Mammoth 10K at Dinosaur Valley (our first ever trail race :D)
October 15: Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k
October 16: That Dam Half (Bre is the only nut to do this half so close to our last one. Caroline is doing the 5k for moral support. That’s what running buddies do right?!)
October 22: The Original Mud Run
October 29: Shannon Brewery Monster Dash (only Bre since she’s ditching Caroline next weekend)
November 19: Pumpkin Spice 15k
November 24: Fort Worth Turkey Trot (still up for debate but look how nuts we are already, this is probably going to happen)
December 11: The Dallas Marathon (Half for Caroline & Full for Bre-because she’s apparently certifiable)
Like we said, this is a definite race season for us but also a great motivator not to slack off when the weather gets cooler and all the holiday food starts flowing. And even though we already have a couple races in mind for 2017, adding anymore to the books right now might be a little too crazy, even for us 😉
HAPPY RUNNING Y’ALL!!!
